Details

There are just 27 native species of grasshoppers and crickets (Orthoptera) which makes them a relatively easy group to study and record. In recent years in Sussex we have seen some species decline, while others have expanded their distributions new species have arrived from the continent.

We start in the Seven Sisters Pump Barn, with a short introduction to the Orthoptera. Then we will explore the woodlands, meadows and chalk grassland of the Country Park looking for these insects learning more about their habits, and how to identify them by both sight and sound.

Seven Sisters Country Park is situated at Exceat in East Sussex, just off the A259 between Eastbourne and Seaford. It is easily accessible from anywhere in the South East but to preserve the unspoilt beauty of the South Downs we'd prefer you to leave your car at home.
The park is well served by public transport.
Buses 13 & 12 from Brighton/Eastbourne, and from further along the coast, stop at the Park entrance.

Accessible by Public Transport: 3 miles from Seaford station
